where it all began
Richard Red Leaf was born on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota and is an enrolled tribal member. His family moved from the Okreek and Mission area to Rapid City, South Dakota during the first years of World War II. His father, the Reverend Lester A. Van Etten (deceased) was from Owego, New York and his mother, Lydia Red Leaf (deceased), was a Sicanju tribal member from the Bull Creek area near Hamill, South Dakota. Richard has two children and lives with his wife, Ruby, in Sacramento, California, where they are actively involved in family ministry to this day. The family continues to schedule speaking and singing engagements, traveling wherever the Lord may lead.
